Special City Council Meeting – Santa Fe West

The City will hold a special City Council meeting to discuss plans for the removal and rebuilding of the Santa Fe Drive project. All of the proposed designs will:
• Cost an additional $1.3-1.9 million to reconfigure the lane width and redo the parking, using funds from the Santa Fe East Improvement project and dipping into the general fund.
• Resulting in months of construction for the Santa Fe Drive corridor, affecting local residents, small businesses and the students and faculty of San Dieguito Academy.
• Reduce safety for the students of SDA and local Encinitas residents
The current design, with narrower lanes, has resulted in reduced speeds on Santa Fe. New proposed designs will widen the motorist travel lanes, thus making it easier for motorists to drive faster – and making it less safe for pedestrians and cyclists.
